PetScan ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that helps dog owners evaluate pet food ingredients. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Information We Collect
Camera access — used solely to scan barcodes and photograph ingredient labels. Photos are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers.
Scan history — barcode numbers, product names, brand, ingredients, and scores may be stored in our database (Supabase) to power faster lookups for all users.
No personal accounts — PetScan does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email, or location.
How We Use Information
To identify pet food products and retrieve ingredient information.
To analyze ingredients and generate a safety score using our ingredient database and AI (Claude by Anthropic).
To cache scan results so future users get instant results for the same product.
Third-Party Services
Anthropic Claude API — AI analysis of ingredients and label photos. Data sent: ingredient text or image content only. Anthropic Privacy Policy
Open Pet Food Facts / Open Food Facts — Public product databases used for barcode lookups. No user data is sent to these services beyond the barcode number.
Data Retention
Scanned product information may be retained in our database indefinitely to improve lookup speed. No personally identifiable information is stored.
Children's Privacy
PetScan is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
